Morey Coaching FAQ

What Is Coaching?

A partnership + A growth environment

Coaching is a thought-provoking and creative partnership that inspires clients to maximize their personal and professional potential.” – International Coach Federation

  • Coaching is an effective and proven method and model for working with clients to develop as leaders and achieve their personal and professional goals. Coaching has been embraced by leaders and managers of the largest corporations and non-profits through the smallest of businesses.

  • The term “coaching” is quite the buzzword these days. But it’s more than a catch-all phrase! Coaching formalized as a helping profession around 35 years ago, with its roots reaching back at least another 20 years.

  • Today, coaching provides an important missing piece in the development and support of leaders. Coaching is based on a formal method and model that adheres to a set of core competencies listed here, set by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

  • Coaching is a non-prescriptive, non-directive form of developmental help. Unlike consultants, trainers or mentors, coaches may not have expertise in the industries in which their clients work.

  • Coaches consider their clients to be the real experts! Coaches are trained to draw out a client’s own inner advice, motivations, answers, solutions, and strategies.

  • Coaching partnerships are present and future focused, and best serve people who are on a growth and development track in their lives.

What is a coach?

  • A professional coach is a person who has received specific training in the field of coaching, who is preferably aligned with a professional coaching association (such as ICF) and abides by the association’s code of ethics. Coaches use a specific skill set based on core competencies to help clients maximize their personal and professional potential.

  • Some coaches offer consulting. But with Morey Coaching, my passion has always been for the “pure” model of coaching that keeps clients in the driver’s seat, developing and leaning into their own inner advice, wisdom and character. I do not generally offer specific business advice to the executives and small business owners with whom I work.

  • The ICF is the world’s largest body of professionally trained coaches, with more than 50,000 credentialed coaches. ICF sets high ethics and standards for the coaching profession, accredits coaching schools, and issues the most widely respected coaching credentials around the world.

    How does coaching work?

  • Coaching is delivered by Zoom, telephone, or in person, in .75 to 1.5 hour sessions. Initial coaching agreements typically call for 7-10 sessions divided into 1-2 meetings per month. Clients who have completed an initial coaching package are welcome to schedule single, “as needed” sessions, whether or not they purchase a new coaching package.

  • Coaching relationships are respectful of your personal style and pace. Rather than having to fit yourself into a program, the program is built around you, starting with an initial, foundation building intake session.
